    All clear, no evidence of shots fired. Hope this isn't the new norm every time there's a car backfire or construction boom..

    So let me understand this:
    Everyone complains about Twitter and Facebook being used instead of the national alert system because while not everyone uses those, almost everyone has a cell phone. So, now they broadcast it on the national alert system and what does everyone do?... Post it on fucking Twitter and Facebook.

    Let's put this in perspective: Things are going to be fucky for a while. We may as well just accept it and feel our way through it.

    I used to have your back until this comment, so you are fine with your semi-auto a hunting rifle but not a black semi-auto rifle?
    The only reason we can't hunt with AR's here in Canada now is because they are restricted they are just a semi-auto rifle.

    [IMG]

    But this isn't about gun control

    My heart goes out to all families who lost loved ones and I have been flying my taritin in my window to so show my support.

    All good man. We agree on 90% of everything else. I'm not saying *I think they should be banned*. I'm saying if it comes to it I'm okay with it. I love shooting a semi auto rifle. I love shooting a fully auto rifle. Im simply saying if it comes to it, and we MUST ban rifles of certain varieties, I'm okay with losing military style rifles being gone. As long as I can keep my bolt action rifles I'm going to still be able to hunt.

    And Boing, I'll always have your back. I'll never abandon you! Us conservatives are an endangered species on Reality-Check!

    A civilian can't buy a full auto rifle in Canada there a few that can and still own them but they are not allowed to use them.
    You are either with gun owners or you are against gun owners, because when the government starts with the "military style" rifles remember this.

    Also, if my post read like we MUST semi autos, I never said that. I said "if it comes to it and we must". Just for clarification!

    Check my post history with anyone on RC. I'm an equal opportunity asshole.

    I seriously don't think most of what I post could/should be taken as condescending. I mean, I'm obviously smarter than you but that shouldn't make you feel bad, princess! ;)

    All good if you're smarter than me with some things. When the zombies start coming out and the world continues it's downward spiral into only the strong survive, I'll entertain the thought of you begging me for some scraps of the food that I hunted, skinned and butchered and fed my family with!

    In all seriousness though, I don't actually harbour any ill will into anyone here, I've never met you, only met a couple RC'ers and enjoy the debates. You've all taught me some, and I hope I can shed some of my own perspectives into others. With the crimes committed, I think we are mostly all on the same page and feel bad for those who have had to live this nightmare.
    My comments are only in fun and don't want them to be perceived as any actual animosity. We all have the right to have our own thoughts and perspectives. I think we should all respect that. Even if some of you are liberals!

    Feds to soon ban AR-15, several other firearms used in mass shootings: sources

    OTTAWA -- The federal government is set to soon announce a ban on certain assault-style weapons that have been used in past mass shootings, including the AR-15, CTV News has confirmed.

    The announcement is expected as early as Friday, and the move has been approved by cabinet.

    Asked about the gun ban on Thursday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he will have more to say “in the coming days,” and emphasized that it’s been a longstanding commitment of his government.

    The ban includes guns that have been used in past Canadian shootings, including:

    • the Ruger Mini-14 which was used in the Ecole Polytechnique massacre in Montreal in 1989;
    • the M14 semi-automatic which was used in the 2014 Moncton shooting;
    • the Beretta CX4 Storm which was used in the Dawson College shooting; and
    • the CSA-VZ-58 which the gunman attempted to use in the Quebec Mosque shooting.
    As well, the firearms used in the Las Vegas, Orlando and Sandy Hook mass shootings will be on the list of guns that will be banned in Canada, sources said.

    Under current law, adding firearms to the list of banned weapons in Canada can be done through an order-in-council and does not require new legislation.

    About as effective as banning black cars to prevent traffic accidents but good PR move for them I guess. It saddens me when we are governed by emotion and not facts. I'd rather see them address the illegal firearms used in this shooting than put more restrictions on legal firearm owners.

    Remember 2015 when the Liberals planned to restore science and evidence-based policy making and we believed them..
    Good PR won't stop shootings, they'll have far fewer low hanging fruit to scapegoat next time...
    This will cost a billion dollars and if New Zealand is any indication, last I heard they had compliance of about 20%..

    I have no dog in this fight; having said that, if 80% support this, I can't fault the government for doing it.

    Stuff like gun control legislation takes time to get to the point of a complete ban. Start with no new guns getting into the pool (as much as you can do that outside of the illegal gun trade), then over time, claw back the guns already in the pool. I'm obviously not in the government but I'm sure this was a major part of being able to get this through so quickly.
