Im thinking of ordering this lens soon. Any suggestions on a cheap place to pick one up?
Is there really THAT much difference between 50/1.4 and 50/1.8?
next question. wile looking around. i noticed sigma has a 50mm 1.4 as well. a bit pricier, but my friend has the 50mm 2.8 and loves it. anyone have any suggestions or experience with either lens ?
Yes, IQ, build, focus...etc
I have heard both good and bad things about the siggy 50 f1.4...more bad than good.
I love my Canon 1.4 but would probably be just as happy with the 1.8 and the extra money in my pocket. I had the 1.8 before and really liked it and although it looked cheaply made I never had any issues. No experience with the Sigma.
The smoother bokeh of the 1.4 isn't a factor for you?
I don't know if I'd every rely on the 1.8, but its fun to get creative with. Maybe I'm not giving it enough credit.
Mine fell apart with only light use. I would say it doesn't totally deserve the credit.
I find the 1.4 isn't usable under 1.8 anyway, the photos look really dreamy. It is a better lens no question but you could buy 3 or 4 1.8's for the same price as 1 1.4, is it that much better? Even the build quality isn't great on the 1.4. Better than the 1.8 for sure but it is still my cheapest looking/feeling lens for sure. But what did I buy? 1.4 even with all of my arguments against it. Guess all I am trying to say is if money is an issue the 1.8 is a fine lens.
i find this interesting. i have been reading around on posts for a few days now. and i see alot of people comparing these lenses and some people think theres not that much of a difference between these 2 lenses. But there are also people who say, in some ways that the 1.2 isnt that much greater than the 1.4. I dunno what to say. i should have just ordered it, haha.
Mine is incredibly useable at f/1.4. When you nail your focusing, this lens at 1.4 is great.
I am with Arod and think that the 50 f/1.4 is better than the 1.8. I own both; I sold my 1.8 a month after I purchased the 1.4 because of its weaker construction, lack of color contrast, and it plainly is not as sharp as the 1.4. For the $$$$, the 50 1.4 is by far the best lens I own considering its price tag; hands down.
