It can leave a dirty taste in my mouth though. Pay 10,000$ to learn to drive a Tractor trailer. Deal with arguably more stressful situations than most bus drivers will encounter. I'll never likely make 60k driving a truck for a company in Nova Scotia. However I have no interest in driving a bus and kudus to the people that do and get the money they make. If I was offered that money to do a less intensive job that I had interest in doing I'd take that money as well.

There are a lot of people with loads of student loans debt, and university degrees making half that i'm afraid. There will always be lower, middle, and upper class people, I just don't understand how someone out of high school with no degree, can walk into a 50-60k/year job with the municipal government with all the perks. Sounds like its the best way to go to me, fuck university i'm gonna drive a bus.

Oddly enough to work in a call center for the Government in Nova Scotia you need a University Degree...a call center ffs

And these are the people that will pay higher taxes to help keep the bus drivers in the gravy. Makes perfect sense to me.

There should be a committee when a company is primarily funded by the public's money.

which, unless they get 50k a year wouldn't be so bad, and they could work on all public sector work.

I actually thought the NS utility and Review board covers transit anyways.

We need to pay more for proof readers:

Metro Transit Conventional Service will resume operation at the beginning of the regular
service day on Friday, March 16. The buses will be inspected, fuelled, and prepped on
    Thursday, March 17

the whole problem is that they are being paid with tax money, so in order for them to get this disposable income those who pay taxes give up their's. it's like you said maybe if you paid more taxes you would be more concerned. i'm going to go out on a limb and bet that you think increasing minimum wage is also a good thing...

that 4k singing bonus may have gone over better if they had done something to deserve it, like maybe working for the past 6 weeks.

next time I see you, I'm blasting you with ketchup.

they do public passenger stuff. ie - acadian lines, ambassatours - those sorts of operations. they inspect metro transit buses for safety fairly frequently, though

cool, I knew they had their hands in there somewhere, nothing to do with municipal funding though. They do have to approve fare hikes though don't they?

I don't think they have jurisdiction over Metro Transit fares. Could be wrong.

Yep, a female with grade 12, a Hospitality Services course at NSCC (and regret it), who is going to school to be a truck driver, yep I am so perpetuating a stereotype. Posted for entertainment. Lighten up.

I'm happy that they are back. I don't agree with the way the strike was handled and the reasons for the strike, but I really hope there aren't any confrontations from crazy passengers who are mad at the bus drivers.

Also, I saw that picture posted on FB as well. I know it's just a joke, but it bugged me because it implied driving a bus isn't important, yet all most people could talk about during the strike is how they were inconvenienced and it had a negative impact on their lives. I think they are paid very well for what they do already and the strike seemed silly to me, but I bet that job is a lot harder than people think.
