I thought it was 2% on top of the standard cost of living increase? and what is this $4000 signing bonus? Holy shit thats impressive, guess they can pay all their bills from the last month and a half now. Rostering i don't give a fuck about as long as these guys aren't sucking up the OT. I don't want my taxes going up any more because of this service that I have to drive 10 mins to a bus stop.
With my grade 12 education I may be overqualified. Plus I see lots of complaining in this thread besides me.
It's been shown numerous times that the OT bill from last year wasn't a result of the cafeteria-style system, but instead by mis-management by MT. God forbid that people in Halifax make a decent wage and we have a strong middle-class.
Im guessing management will create a schedule with 6 versions. They get their choice, and if they dont like any, option 1 gets picked.
I should have at least waited for an official release before over reacting I guess. Lots of places give a standard cost of living increase yearly. I thought I read Metro Transit employees got this anyways. I fail to see how a $4000 signing bonus to each member is really cheaper than the OT would have been. If it were a job that wasn't coming out of tax payers wallets i wouldn't give a shit what they got paid. MT management i'm very sure get more than ridiculous wages as well, and don't get me started of what politicians get paid from the taxpayers.
A friend of mine's husband is a bus driver and the union paid him $150 a week, let's just hope it is to cover the lost wages.
I have no idea how many transit drivers there are...lets say 200. $4000 x 200 = $800'000. The OT bill management says would have been in the multiple millions....simple math tells you.... Edit...and as Aron says....once the tax man gets their hands on the $4000....each union member is likely to see maybe 2500 of it.
I don't see why they should be compensated for striking. To me it's just an incentive (bribe) to get them to sign.
does the atu consist of just drivers or everyone employed by mt? because the news said its like 750 employees and times that by 4k and youre looking at 3mil
This is exactly what it is....its a little perk for them giving in on the scheduling issue. I don't really think any of them deseve to be compensated for their lost wages....they chose (at least the majorigy) to strike...no wages comes with that decision
I heard there were 750 union members striking, so thats $3 million and yeah being compensated to strike is laughable, we're not gonna do our jobs for a month and a half, inconvenience the general public by doing so, and than still get paid for it. Amazing.
They ALL chose the job, and the union, so even when applying they they should known this could happen.
And then I'll have to get prepared for physical and verbal assaults that I'm sure are going to happen.
It's really a shame. There is a significant part of the population who couldn't wrap their heads around the 'legal' part of your strike.
Some people are out for blood, but than again its the internet, most people won't have the balls to say or do anything face to face with a driver.
This and the fact that everything they do as soon as they get on the bus is recorded on video tape. I'm sure they'll be some pretty nasty comments, but I'll do what I do best and let it go in one ear and out the other ear and get people transported to where they need to go as I did prior to the strike.
I can only imagine the questions and comments you're going to get. I think most should be positive and relieved to have their form of transportation back up and running.
why was there a 4k signing bonus? it sure as hell better not be viewed as compensation for while people chose not to work. good to see that union proved their point and held firm on no rostering.... what was the point of the strike again?
