Hauling logs

Would a four wheeler haul logs out of the wood ? I have 13 acres and alot of dry trees that have been brought down over the years. I just don't know if a 4 wheeler would cut the mustard. Every video I see of an argo makes me think that is a solid option. Anyone deal with this before ?

That depends on the 4wheeler you get, and how you're hauling it.

Obviously some 4wheelers are made for trail riding, and some are work horses. A light 350 -400 CC bike would haul it if you were dragging 2 or 3 at a time. Maybe a few more if you were loading them onto a trailer.

We have hauled some pretty big lumber with a Honda 500, and even more with my Kawasaki 650. An argo would probably haul anything you can throw at it but they're not much good for an un-cut trail as they get high centered easily. It could make for a pain in the ass. If the land is pretty flat and hard, an argo would be great.

If the log isn't stupid huge and you strap the front of it onto some type of sled so that it isn't digging into everything that it touches, then yes

get yourself a small solid axle to get the front of the log up on - something with a 3 or 4 ft tongue and a couple ft between the wheels. Weld a couple hooks on the tongue 1/2 way up. Throw logs up on, wrap a chain around, drive.

If you are serious about hauling logs out get an old tractor or something.

Pretty much exactly what my grandfather built a number of years ago. Works great, towed behind his 91 350 Honda.

This one is really cool. I was going to suggest something like this but they took it multiple steps farther. A lot of thought and work went into that trailer.

Why is that ? Like I said before the land is pretty rough. An old tractor will just get stuck. 4 wheeler will as well IMO.

the argo will also get stuck, has no suspension, is a BEAR to work on....

Well theres the perfect idea. Train a bear to haul the logs! Nothing will get that stuck.

Argo would be terrible on rough ground. No suspension, low clearance, 4 wheels on each side, you run over the same rock 4 times!

They're good in a swamp, flat ground, deep snow with the tracks. But not in the rough. A good solid axle 4wheeler would be best. 500cc or so. Maybe bit larger if you don't mind burning a bit more gas

Well I am stuck figuring out what to do then ! I will just keep cutting and stacking till I figure a way out.

Could always look into a 'woods' truck or something along that line. I imagine this wouldnt have much trouble with rough terrain...

True, but depending on where he lives / what 'the wife' thinks, it might not be a good thing to have sitting around the yard....

Unless you have a quad already and are looking to waste a bunch of money on a single purpose vehicle, i'd steer clear of the argo. Unless fun isn't your thing.

Don't get an Argo. Like has been said before, good for snow or swamps, but anything goes wrong it's a beast to get out. Plus, they are a fortune in repairs. An ATV should be just fine.
