The newest patty in town has arrived, burger lovers. After finding out that Ottawa-based chain The Works Gourmet Burger Bistro was hitting Hali last summer, the curious and hungry among us have been waiting, and waiting, to sink their teeth into one of these famous burgs. This Thursday and Friday marks the official arrival of the first Works in Atlantic Canada—make that the first Works outside of Ontario—which has taken over 5431 Doyle Street with its 70 burgers (and something like 420 combinations), 50 plus shakes and tons of tempting sides and starters (like that Tower o’ Rings I’ve been dreaming about nightly). Sure, the menu is intimidatingly massive but that just means you’ll have to get to know it. Study up, folks.

Owned by husband and wife team Alan and Jody Garner, who call the business venture their honeymoon, The Works is kicking off their first week up-and-running in a big way. Before its official grand opening on Friday (February 22) comes Free Day. In a collaborative effort with Feed Nova Scotia, on Thursday (February 21) The Works and the Garners welcome you to eat for free, yes FREE, if you make a donation to the local charity. Both cash and non-perishable food donations will be accepted in exchange for damn good burgers and more from 11am to 2pm and 5 until 8pm on Thursday. See, good karma exists, people. The proof is in the patty!

yeah the trick to Five Guys is that its not Gourmet its just an all-american double burger done right
you are asked cheese or no cheese not what type of cheese
and the rest of the toppings are not controversial standard fair
but they do know that fried onions are the way to go

    Gross that is amazing.

I have anaphylactic reactions but it's via contact or consumption only! I'm glad I can still smell it, although the smell turns my stomach lol

Ah, even though it's a shitty allergy, I think you're luckier. Flying always sucks for me too. I can't open a door and get out

Yup, checked it out on Friday, right around 5pm. They were busy but not slammed. Seated right away in a booth. Both of our burgers were great. Staff was fantastic. I'll go back.

They've got 30 minute parking meters on the street, which isn't long enough. Saw the meter maid coming between the onion ring tower and when the burgers arrived, so I ran out to feed my meter. When I was threatened with feeding meter ticket (ugh), I moved my car. It's no wonder why some people will avoid downtown.

Went to Five Guys in Orlando. It was good but it didn't change my life like I expected based on RC's love for it. Expectations were just too high I guess

was there at lunch today it was good, but would still rank Relish and Ace above it
and pricey $53 for 2 seems ridiculous

    as for the meters
the 3 closest to the entrance and the port of wines are 30 min
the rest of the street are 90 min meters (stop parking in front of the door)

    yup Elk available

I would still put Ace, Relish, Brooklyn, Darrells & Westcliff ahead of works
and still can't believe how pricey it was

yeah its not a fast place, which is why i think they charge so much, you have to sit down and wait like 20 min for a burger, at lunch they are better and cheaper they do a half price thing here.

Forgot to add to this. I ate at Relish. It was the best "gourmet" burger place I've eaten at so far in Halifax (but still no Five Guys)
