    new exhaust

So, we are going away to a race next week, and the track has strict sound regs, so in an attempt to quiet the car down, we got some downturns..

But, after playing with them a bit, we said fuck it, instead of down, go mad max style and shoot flames at the sound guy..

We were super worried about the 104db limit, as we have no mufflers and no place to put them if we did.
We tried a few different solutions and got it down to 102db at 50' away.

    lol at the pic!

104 db? Sounds like you're going to Calabogie.

If that is where you're going, they don't track sound from that far away. They also tested my intake noise as well.

Yup, Calabogie it is, its their biggest race weekend of the year, 160+ cars!
They only do the sound check on track at 50', lapping days are a bit different.

We ended up going with some dynatech Vortex cone "mufflers".

Good solution! Better than the Porsche GT2 we saw with cherry bombs from Canadian Tire welded onto the exhausts.

I don't think my drivers will be there that weekend, unfortunately (I still crew for a race team once in a while, although they're in Ottawa and I live out west).

Have you driven Calabogie before? It's awesome.

Very cool track surface too. I've never driven anything that made R-compounds howl like that before.

1st time there, it looks fun.
We are doing every possible day, lapping day on thursday, test day friday and then Sat/Sun race days.
I can't wait, I wish I had a test day in the car before this event, new track and I haven't driven thecar in almost a year..

I will have a shit load of video, I might even tape my first session for a laugh.

Excellent idea. It's a tough track to learn (IMO).

When I was there, I went there as this guy's passenger. As you can see in the video, he had someone who knew the track as a passenger for his first time out there.

The thing about the track is that if you screw up a corner, it can screw you up for the next three corners - very technical.

I'd love to hear your car too.

Also, I'm curious - post back here and tell me what speed you hit on the straight there. My little turbocharged NX2000 hits 190 kmph on the straight before the turn-in.

    Comical.

Have fun Paul, I had a couple days to kill in Ontario last summer and took a drive out there. If you think AMP is backwoods, you just wait haha. There really wasn't anywhere to view the track other than from the paddock, but it definitely has that nice and wide feel to it. The Vette should be well suited to it.

lol, no - the person who knew the track certainly wasn't me! That video was Amit, went out with someone else who knew the track. I did a few laps with him.

The Mini wasn't actually that fast, although it did sound like a dentist's drill! - it was slower than my NX - I think it hit around ~180 on the straights.

Our race car (I still crew occasionally for a team) - the turboed NX from it hits about 235 on the straight. Still very curious to see what the Vette hit! And how he liked the track

I loved the track, probably my favorite so far, its really fun and a challenge to get right.
My fastest laps were around 2:12.0-2:12.3, they never got too far away from that.
Your NX must have a ton of motor, as if you are hitting 235, you are faster than me, my fastest speeds were in the 143mph range, average was likely about 140mph, so 230 km/h or so.
The fastest car there on the straight was that Subaru, he was just slightly faster than the Viper and I who were almost identical for top speed everywhere.

No, not my NX2000. My car, I can hit about 190 in the straight. I'm not making as much power as my driver's - Bob Armstrong's car hit about 235 kmph.

He's making 380 wheel horsepower and the car is roughly 2500 lbs.

    His car:

    Both race cars:

    My car - from Calabogie:

I love that track too - challenge is an understatement, IMO!
