no sound (computer)

I think my sound card is screwed, but i'm as dumb with computers as I am with cellphones, or any technology for that matter. speakers are good, all volumes are up, wiggled the wire and it does nothing. Where would one find a sound card to buy? who replaces them who won't charge a fortune? how much do they usually run? and is there anything else that could be wrong with this thing? halp a dummy out.

Laptop Docking Station / Dual Monitors

So the new place is going to be writing cheques to buy gear for my home office and have a question.

I know what I want for a desktop once I get to SJ, but in the meantime I need to get a rocking laptop (PC only, I am a .NET guy) for home. I will be setting it up as a workstation with external mouse and keyboard, but as well I want dual monitors. All the laptops I've seen only have one output??

Anyone know where I can get a good lappy with dual monitor support?

My current Android project

So I've been working on a small project in my spare time with my Nexus One (although is should work with any Android 2.0+ device). Basically it allows you to connect to your phone via WiFi and do a few different things like view/send SMS, view notifications, remotely control the camera and/or transfer files to and from the device. It's a work in progress. Figured I'd share with the Android crew.

An example of a few notifications:

Showing some extra details about the device we are connected to:

SMS view (show's all the current SMS conversations on the device)

and of course, an individual conversation view that allows you to carry on an SMS conversation

Remote camera control. Currently it does stills, but I'm going to work in some video as well. Not sure how much demand there is to turn an Android phone into a WiFi spy camera ;)

Okay, I really don't know shit about cell phones, I pick it up and make a call and thats it. I am able to get another phone through Bell now and am open to suggestions. I am also open to switching providers but i've heard bad things about them all, but I can't complain a whole lot about Bell/Aliant/MT&T over the last 12 years. I am also sort of interested in joining the 21st century and getting a blackberry or iphone, i'd like to think i'm not too old or dumb to figure these things out. So whats good today? I know this shit gets outdated pretty fast...

Multiple Versions of .net Framework??

So I noticed on my XP machine I have multiple versions of the MS .net framework when I look at "Add/Remove Programs". These would have got there from things like my GPS unit, etc that needed .net for various add-ons and editors, but why the hell are there like 4 different versions all installed? I see Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 SP2, and 3.5 SP1....is it safe to remove the older versions?

Hello Ps3 People

A good friend of mine GAVE me his PS3 because it's BluRay laser has shit the bed.

Apparently he's attempted to fix it himself but to no luck.

My questions are as follows:

It's my intent on using this to access my media server and stream wireless torrented movies to my TV upstairs, I've got it to work but I'm getting an error 2006 or something, it just hangs up on a black screen, is it a problem with the connection?

2nd: I've tried accessing the PlayStation Store, figuring I can just buy a game online with my credit card and download it to my harddrive but I needed to update my system, so I downloaded the update (took like 30 minutes on an 802.11n wireless connection with Eastlink... then it told me that if I update to this new firmware I wouldn't be able to use another OS on it ever again... did he have his Ps3 cracked or did the original firmware allow you to install other OS's ??

Should I NOT update?

And finally where's the cheapest place I can find a Ps3 controler?

All he gave me was the BluRay remote and after the update I lost the bluetooth connection so I can't even click "Confirm" or "Cancel" on the Goddamn update sceen!

I have my BB set up with gmail; all my hotmail stuff gets forwarded to gmail acct.

under Email Reconciliation it's set to Delete on: Mailbox & Handheld. I expected this setting to go both ways; I delete from gmail, it deletes on BB when it refreshes. Likewise, when I delete from BB, when I log into Gmail, it should be gone.

Deletes off the BB, but not my Gmail inbox. What am I missing fellas?
