I want to buy a used truck to replace my HHR for utility purposes.

1) It will be driven at most 6-7000 km's a year, roughly same as my HHR
2) It will be primarily used it for hauling dirt, mulch, gravel, ATV, lawn tractors, lumber, etc ... you get it
3) It must be an extended/crew with a bench back seat as I still want to be able to take the dogs with me
4) Gas mileage not an issue

Here's the kicker, because I will use it so little, I don't want to spend a lot. I don't want to finance it.

Budget: $6000 very top end, would prefer a good deal in the $4000-5000 range

The age of the vehicle is not even important, the reliability and condition is all that matters and it does what I want. I would buy a 1978 F150 extended if it was in good shape and price is right, so easy to fix.

My biggest concern is actually with newer trucks as they have so much electronics to fail, are there certain trucks to watch out for, engines, etc? There are lots of 1999-2004 F150's in that range with 4.6-5.4 motors but I know nothing about their reliability.

Im always scanning Kijiji looking at cars/trucks or bikes. It just seems that prices are completely random. Some so high you laugh, some so low you wonder.

Some people here go thru all kinds of vehicles. Do you have some system that determines your asking price? Or you just throw out numbers...
