Instead, the cloud bank in silhouette against a colorful lunar corona was spotted on the evening of May 18 over Cochem, Germany from the banks of the river Mossele. The lunar corona is formed as bright moonlight is diffracted by water droplets in thin clouds drifting in front of the lunar disk. Below it lies the region's historic Cochem Castle dating from the 11th century, and not Wayne Manor. Still, regardless of your location on planet Earth it is well worth scanning the evening skies this weekend, as a Full Moon rises and bright planets gather in the west.

This is truly unbelievable: Lego has built a 1:1 scale model of the X-Wing fighter using an astounding 5,335,200 bricks! It's as big as the real thing, capable of fitting the real Luke Skywalker—and Porkins.

As you can see in these exclusive Gizmodo images and video, it reproduces the official $60 Lego 9493 X-Wing Fighter. But instead of being 560-pieces and a few inches long, this model uses more than five million pieces and it's 11-feet tall and 43 feet long, with a 44-foot wingspan. Just like the real X-Wing—and 42 times the size of the commercial Lego set.

The unbelievable facts

Here are all details about the model:

Contains 5,335,200 LEGO bricks
Weighs 45,979.61 pounds (including bricks and steel infrastructure)
Height: 11 feet / 3.35 meters
Length: 43 feet / 13.1 meters
Wingspan: 44 feet / 13.44 meters
32 builders spent 17,336 hours (about 4 months) to construct

Engines that light up and roar.
Messier 109 Beautiful barred spiral galaxy M109, 109th entry in Charles Messier's famous catalog of bright Nebulae and Star Clusters, is found just below the Big Dipper's bowl in the northern constellation Ursa Major. In telescopic views, its striking central bar gives the galaxy the appearance of the Greek letter "theta", θ, a common mathematical symbol representing an angle. Of course M109 spans a very small angle in planet Earth's sky, about 7 arcminutes or 0.12 degrees. But that small angle corresponds to an enormous 120,000 light-year diameter at the galaxy's estimated 60 million light-year distance. The brightest member of the now recognized Ursa Major galaxy cluster, M109 (aka NGC 3992) is joined by three spiky foreground stars strung out across this frame. The three small, fuzzy bluish galaxies also on the scene, identified left to right as UGC 6969, UGC 6940 and UGC 6923, are possibly satellite galaxies of the larger M109.
What did you do over the weekend?
Friday I worked at the NSLC, Saturday I went out for lunch at the Lower Deck with my mom, and some shopping. Later that evening I went and seen The Great Gatsby with my boyfriend. Sunday I took my grandmother out for Chinese food for "Mother's Day" (She wasn't feeling good last week), then I went to PPP with my friends, watched some idiot blow up his vehicle. :kekeke:

What's your plans for the week?
So far this week, just working at the hospital one day, trying to get some more shifts in ! Also, my friends baby turns one, so baby birthday party on Sunday! :D

Enjoy your four day week, fellow RCers! :brows:

The Fate Of The American Flag On The Moon
When Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon, one of the first things they did was plant an American flag on the surface. It was a gesture not to claim territory, but to symbolized an amazing achievement by the country. Today, that flag is still often depicted standing gracefully on the surface of the moon, to remind us all of the great things that we are capable of doing.

Unfortunately though, the reality isn’t quite as elegant. For starters, the flag was not some super high tech flag designed by NASA to survive the harsh environment of the moon. It was bought at Sears for $5.50. Because it was made out of ordinary material, the colors of the flag were quickly bleached white by the intense rays of the sun and general radiation in space. Furthermore, 40+ years of harsh moon life has more than likely disintegrated the flag entirely. Even worse, when Neil and Buzz left the moon, the exhaust from the lunar module knocked the thing over onto the ground!

It’s not all entirely bad though. There are actually 5 other American flags on the surface of the moon from subsequent visits. While all those flags probably suffered the same fate as the Apollo 11 flag, photographs have shown that their poles are still standing. The original pole from Apollo 11 can also be seen laying on the ground near its originally placement. So while the flags are more than likely gone for eternity, we still have the poles to show our accomplishments. While they are flag-less, that’s probably more fitting anyway. Space travel should be considered an achievement as a species rather than one as a nation.
